Spring Checklist for your HVAC system

As the temperatures rise here in Texas, you may be going through your spring-cleaning checklist to keep your home at its best and reduce unwanted pollens and dust. Although invisible, don’t forget to check in on the air you breathe by going through your spring HVAC checklist as well! Ensure that your home is getting clean, cool air in the coming months ahead to keep your family comfortable and worry-free!

Clean Debris from Around Unit

HVAC systems need to breathe too! When your HVAC is crowded with dirt, leaves, twigs, or any other debris, it can’t work properly and will limit its efficiency. Ensure proper airflow by checking that all debris is at least two to three feet away from your HVAC system. This will help clean airflow through more properly and allow the air conditioner to do its job cooling your home easier.

Test your Thermostat/Air Conditioner

No one wants to find out their thermostat isn’t working during the first heatwave of summer, so be sure to test that cool air is running properly before it is too late! If you turn on your air conditioning and after an hour or so there isn’t much change in temperature, there is probably something wrong. First, try and switch out the batteries on your thermostat and see if that makes a difference. If there still is an issue, be sure to call an HVAC Expert to come out and take a look at your HVAC system and thermostat to spot where the problem might be occurring.

Upgrading your Thermostat

How often have you left for work during the day and realized you forgot to adjust your thermostat? That precious cool air may be left running for 8+ hours with no one home to enjoy it, as your wallet gets lighter by the second. By installing a programmable thermostat, you can set it to automatically adjust the temperature within your home to a desired energy-efficient setpoint according to your family’s schedule.

Replacing Air Filters

You may have heard it a million times from HVAC companies; remember to change your air filter! A clogged air filter will be less efficient at catching all that pesky spring pollen and making allergies go rampant. With air pollutants abundant in the springtime, you may need to change your air filter more often than usual to keep up with the changing weather.

Schedule a Tune-Up

Don’t wait till it is too late to have maintenance done on your HVAC system. Scheduling biannual maintenance will help ensure that you are not stuck in the middle of the summer with a broken air conditioner and no cool air to rescue you from the Texas heat. It is much cheaper, in the long run, to keep your HVAC system running at its best instead of risking a possible breakdown due to preventable issues.

By following the steps listed above, you can rest easy knowing that your HVAC system is ready for the summer to come! Want some more spring tips on the most cost-effective way to keep your home cool? Simply call today and we can help with the answers you need.
